Integrated Domestic Abuse
The Trust has developed a specific cognitive behaviour course to address domestic violence.
Partners of offenders are supported by dedicated Women’s Support Workers, who liaise with course organisers as well as other key agencies.
We also support the development of the specific Domestic Violence Court, and to ensure the effectiveness of multi-agency risk assessment procedures, for Domestic Violence.
The Integrated Domestic Abuse Programme, developed by the Probation Service, targets convicted perpetrators. Its potential effectiveness lies in it being embedded within a wider community framework including agency awareness, policing priority and support for victims/survivors. Agencies offer continuing support.
What is Domestic Abuse?
‘Any incident or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.’
The Trust’s Integrated Domestic Abuse Programme has two key aims:
- To prevent people from re-offending
- The safety of women and children
Working closely with other agencies such as the Police and Social Services, Probation Officers:
- encourage abusers to change their behaviour
- help men understand why they use violence and abuse
- encourage abusers to take responsibility for their actions
- help abusers understand the effect they have on others
- provide victims with information and support.
