Find out more about Community Sentences

The Local Crime Community Sentence project (LCCS) is a joint venture by magistrates and probation officers to increase the knowledge and understanding of community sentences.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Probation Trust are planning to deliver free presentations to community groups throughout the region.

Who can take part?

Any groups can take part.  It is an opportunity for your group to ‘be the judge’, sentencing a serious crime and deciding whether the offender goes to prison or is given a community sentence.  Groups who have taken part in the scheme included carer associations, religious groups and professional organisations.

What does the presentation involve?

Your group will be taken through a case study of a fictional crime.  You are provided with all the background information to the offence, how it was reported in the media and the offender’s personal circumstances.  The group will then be asked, based on the evidence provided, to determine the sentence.

The presentation lasts about an hour and can be delivered at any time to community groups.  It gives members of the group the opportunity to discuss their thoughts on community punishment and ask questions of the presenters in an open and honest forum.

Groups don’t need to provide any equipment – we bring everything we need with us.  The presentation is absolutely free of charge.
